Designs of Contact Lenses


In this modern time, markets are flooded with different Designs of Contact Lenses. But, most of the contact lenses are spherical in which both outer as well as inner optical surfaces are spherical in nature. These type of lenses are known as spherical contact lens. Another among Designs of Contact Lenses in toric lens, in which either one of the surfaces have an cylindrical effect. The cylindrical effect can be on both sides, too. It is usually a combination of spherical as well as cylindrical lens.

These Designs of Contact Lenses are suitable and can match the suitability of nearly everyone. Some of the most common diseases of th eyes, astigmatism, hypermetropia and myopia, can be corrected by these Designs of Contact Lenses. People suffering from myopia or nearsightedness, who have problem in looking at far and hypermetropic people or farsightedness, who have problem looking objects places near, were previously advised not to wear contact lenses, but with the introduction of toric lenses, they can also wear contact lens. Those who have astigmatism in one eye but not in the other, for them, it is advisable to wear spherical lens in one of the eyes and toric on the other.



Toric lenses, one of the great invention in Designs of Contact Lenses, are made out of same materials as regular and normal contact lenses, but, they have some distinct characteristics, which are as follow:
these lenses are not symmetrical at the center position and it can be rotated. They have a top portion and also a bottom portion. It is designed in such a way to maintain the orientation which is nit dependent on the movement of the eye.
They are capable of correcting both cylindrical as well as spherical aberration.
Usually, these contact lenses are more expensive than normal ones, so they can be wear for a longer time.

Toric lenses first came into the market in the year 2000. it was introduced by Vistakon. Just like normal eyeglasses, contact lenses can also have either single vision or multifocal with different focal points. Multi focal contact lenses are mostly used to correct accommodative insufficiency or presbyopia. Single vision lenses are used to check near vision of one eye and far vision of the other eye. Sometimes, doctor advise some persons to wear contact lenses with single vision to improve their distance vision and to improve the near vision, to wear reading glasses. Bifocal contact lenses are also available which usually have a small glass at the bottom. Among all the Designs of Contact Lenses, the one which require utmost skill yo manufacture are the soft contact lenses which are multifocal.
