Contact Lenses Care

The invention of modern contact lenses by the Czech chemist Otto Wichterle opened up a new window of opthalmic care. A contact lens is typically a refractive lens worn for medical or cosmetic reasons. It is placed right at the most delicate and sensitive part of the human eye, the cornea. Barring a few modern ones that are deliberately colored with a light blue tinge, most of the lenses are transparent. They can be extremely fashionable and voguish. The fact that all the modern lenses are lightweight adds to the increasing popularity of contact lenses. More and more people are preferring contact lenses to conventional glasses these days. In fact a whopping number of 120 million people are regular users of contact lenses worldwide. Majority of users hail from the United States of America, Japan and Canada. It is also gaining popularity in lesser developed or developing countries. This growing popularity is by no means a fluke. Contact lenses do have their unique benefits. Unlike specs, contact lenses do not steam up. They are comfortable in warm and humid weather too.

Another thing about contact lenses must be mentioned in this context. Glasses, since they are worn few centimeters away from cornea, do not provide a 180 degree of vision. Contact lenses are perfect to have a broader vision or peripheral vision.

As the usage is on a high, contact lenses care has also assumed much relevance. Indiscriminate use of anything has its negative impacts and the same may be said about contact lenses as well. Contact lenses care is all the more important just for the sheer delicate nature of both the equipment and the organ for which it is made. Inappropriate handling of contact lenses may spell doom's day for your vision. Ranging from wearing to cleansing, taking contact lenses care is of paramount importance to any user.

Daily disposable contact lenses require less attention than permanent ones. Disinfecting and cleansing form the most crucial part of contact lenses care. If used carelessly, contact lenses can be a curse to your dear eyes as infections spread or transmitted by bacteria and fungi may damage your vision to any extent. A microorganism named Acanthamoeba can pose severe threat to your eyes in case you carry on using an unhygienic pair of contact lenses. This microorganism forms a layer known as biofilm on the surface of the lens. Now to prevent such things from happening, you can use quite a few authentic cleansing solutions.

Multipurpose solution is by far the most trusted cleansing solution for contact lenses. As the name suggests, this chemical stuff serves a variety of purposes, including disinfecting, rinsing, cleansing and preserving the lenses. Using protein removal enzyme tablets is no longer required in case you use multipurpose solutions.

Other contact lens care products include Hydrogen Peroxide solution, daily cleaner, enzymatic cleaner and Saline solution.
